BRIEF
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Foundation Education is a subordinate unit affiliated with the School of Architecture, Southeast University. Founded to keep pace with reforms toward generalized and interdisciplinary architectural education, it aims to strengthen overall planning of foundational teaching for first- and second-year undergraduates, advance the development and reform of foundational curriculum systems, and integrate disciplinary teaching resources across the university. As a functional grassroots teaching organization with an independent Party branch, it supports undergraduate degree training for Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, and Landscape Architecture majors in the first two years, and oversees the unified organization, management, and evaluation of all foundational teaching activities.
The department is mainly responsible for developing and refining undergraduate degree programs, and advancing curriculum development and teaching reform. It allocates teaching assignments, verifies teaching hours, and monitors teaching quality for first- and second-year undergraduates. It also handles the documentation of teaching achievements, archiving of teaching materials, organization of academic exhibitions, and public outreach. Furthermore, it implements standardized management and performance evaluation for all faculty involved in foundational teaching within the School.
Centered on reforms in undergraduate talent training, the department leverages practical and experimental teaching, expands open teaching initiatives, and improves institutional operational mechanisms to develop high-quality teaching resources and landmark achievements. It prioritizes restructuring foundational teaching content and approaches, innovating practical teaching systems, building a distinctive brand for architectural education, refining exemplary grassroots teaching mechanisms, and delivering high-impact teaching outcomes. Through systematic and collaborative operations, the department seeks to strengthen undergraduate foundational education, achieve cross-major resource sharing, and develop an open, collaborative, and exemplary hub for foundational architectural education.
